Magazine Analysing

L-language
The layout of the magazine is fairly normal, although the title is at the top though, it is in the right hand corner. the title of the main article also is quite far to the top which says “Fucked Up” “The beating heart of the underground”. This is in clear white font which contrasts well with the darker background, it is understandable and clear to read. At the bottom in quote marks by a band member, prefrebly the band member who is on the cover. Stating “our shows are orgies of destruction”. This gives the impression theyre a punk/hardcore/rock band because of the use of descriptive hars words used.

I-institution
NME. Music Magazine of currently popular artists

I-ideology
The message of this magazine mainly looks as if its about music, mainly genres which are not mainstream. Usual mainstream pop artists are well groomed and have a stereotyped look. However this picture shows a man who’s half naked, covered in blood, with tattoos holding a piece of raw meat.

A-audience
I think this is aimed at younger people and those into subcultures and music genres which are not so mainstream. Because of the words used, such as profanity and ‘orgies’, I feel as though this magazine is for people aged 16/17 +

R-representation
Represents subculture things like tattoos, music

Textual Analysis of "Secondary Teachers Magazine" Front Cover

As this is the start of the Foundation Portfolio Preliminary Task we looked at how the media key concepts could be applied to produce a college magazine. We used the acronym LIIAR - Language, Institution, Ideology, Audience and Representation.

L-language
The layout of the magazine is fairly standard, there is 3 small subtitles at the top and the title is below in centre in large font. the font of the text is like Arial, clear and easy to read in green/blue. This makes it attractive, yet understandable. The photograph is in colour and directly under the title. The photo shows two school pupils of different races, sat together with school books. This gives the feel of mixed cultures being together. And behind them is two football style shirts with ‘numeracy’ and ‘literacy’ above. This gives the idea of opposites being together.

I-institution
Wyke College, Wyke achieves the best results, more students from the East Riding than Hull, Achedmic College.

I-ideology
The message this magazine gives out is mainly an educational one. Again from the picture it shows children smiling sat with books, this gives the idea that learning is ‘fun’ and shouldn’t be boring. Also the bright colours make this attractive to read. The subtitles use words like ‘great’ and ‘need to know’ which makes the reader drawn in.

A-audience
Students at Wyke College, staff at the college, age group of students (16-19), 64% females at the college, 36% males at the college, students mainly from Hull and surrounding areas, universities, employee’s of the college.

R-representation
Representing the college, the photograph’s, type of angles, stories, lead story, promoting the college, how your text font and photograph represent your story.
